Information about TLS

Valued Customers,

Rarely does AlveniCloud email customers about an issue affecting the internet as a whole. However, this one has very far-reaching consequences, ones that go beyond our products.
Back in 2019 we sent out an email about how we will no longer be accepting connections to our services that use the soon-to-be deprecated Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.0 or 1.1 protocols. At the time, companies like Google, Microsoft, and Apple, as well as companies in finance, healthcare and government were making similar changes. More recently, companies like FedEx have started notifying customers that the continued use of TLS 1.0/1.1 and earlier will cause service interruptions.
We added support for TLS 1.2 way back in 2015 in anticipation of older protocols being deprecated. And we recently made changes to MailPRO servers to help customers who are in the process of removing the use of TLS 1.0/1.1 to at least ensure their email continues flowing even if receiving services reject mail for TLS violations.
But the fact remains that if we continue allowing TLS 1.0/1.1 connections to and from our servers you will start seeing a variety of issues. These include:
  • Delivery delays of your messages.
  • Messages being outright rejected by receiving servers.
  • Connections to servers timing out.
  • Mail building up in your spool.
  • The complete inability to connect to servers, websites and services.
Support for versions 1.0 and 1.1 will be removed by the end of April.
